Good stuff. Should we assume you're focussing on Cortex-M3
for the initial support? That's what I would do in your shoes.
Get that working well, including TPIU suppport, then Cortex-A8
support can come; and other chips too, later.
As you may be aware, (yet) another Cortex-M3 vendor has recently
begun to show chips: "Energy Micro", www.energymicro.com, which
compares itself to MSP430 in terms of power usage(*). They seem
to support only this two wire debug mode, not JTAG. So as they
start to become available ... SWD support will get more important.

(*) Yes, Cortex-M3 ... not M0. Just goes to show that low power
operation is a chip-wide policy, and the CPU core doesn't
cost much compared to peripherals, memory, clocks, etc.
