I am not sure. See this thread "[Openocd-development] Adding support for SST 39VF6401B externalflash". Part of my adaptation is made in non_cfi.c. I am also new to this GIT so I have not committed it yet, but it works as described in the thread.
However I get the same speeds at internal flash, to leave the flash type out of the discussion. *I was also just trying to help Alain with some questions (sadly I sorted my mails by subject and not by date so the thread I replied on is pretty old, sorry). However it would be a nice side effect if this discussion could lead to me having faster download rates. So please help if you can I can provide the cfg file for information.
