no, i can only think you have broken autotools.
Your config.log looks ok, and seems you are using Ubuntu 10.04 - this is
working fine here on the same version.
Does reverting back to 5e86c5173c234423396d2a0e1e4ad086e1324839 fix the
problem?
Other than that i am running out of ideas.
