Welcome, everyone, to the April Ambassadors Report!

In April, the Open Organization channel on Opensource.com published 8
new articles about the future of work, management, and leadership the
open source way. Two-thirds of our content came from authors outside Red
Hat; one-quarter of our total content came from Open Organization
ambassadors.

Overall, Open Organization articles generated 11,381 page views on
Opensource.com, and users downloaded the free _The Open Organization
Field Guide_ 70 times.

Our "Open Organization Highlights" newsletter continues to perform
exceptionally well. We added more than 50 new recipients in April, and
maintain an open rate of slightly more than 75%.

—Wait. Listen. Do you hear that? It's the book's one-year anniversary
celebration, just over the horizon, now only one month away! We have
lots to do (which is great, because we have lots to celebrate!). Read on
for more details.

Can't wait to see everyone at our first live ambassadors meeting on May 19!

With congratuations on a successful April and best wishes for a lovely May,

Jason Hibbets &
Bryan Behrenshausen

We continue to publish original content from Red Hat CEO Jim Whitehurst,

LinkedIn saw 10,181 views, 1,710 likes, and 141 comments [1]. A new
content bundle on Opensource.com, _Catalyst-In-Chief_, which collects
Jim's columns from the past year, will debut in print and online next month.

April saw the re-launch of our "openorg-list" mailing list, a
community-focused resource for catalyzing conversation about open
organizations. Since the re-introduction, list traffic has been steady
and healthy, as readers and ambassadors alike utilize the list to
connect more frequently.

{5} Looking Ahead
===========================================================================

May will be a rather busy month for the Open Organization community at
Opensource.com!

                                -=-

Our next #OpenOrgChat will be May 12 at 14:00 Eastern / 19:00 UTC! The
topic for May will be "Open Organizations and Education," so we'll
explore the ways OpenOrg thinking applies (or doesn't) to teaching and
learning. If you know anyone who might like to join us—even act as a
guest host—please get in touch!

                                -=-

Thursday, May 19 will be our first-ever live meeting of the Open
Organization Ambassadors! Evenone should have received an email and a
calendar invitation to this event from Bryan (if not, let him know!).
The invitation includes a link to a Google Document outlining an agenda
for the meeting. We'll be fleshing that out as we approach the 19th. In
the meantime, please feel free to contribute notes and potential agenda
items to the document!

                                -=-

Then comes May 31—a very important day. It's the start of "Open
Organization Week" on Opensource.com, which celebrate's the book's first
anniversary! We've got lots planned: A webcast, an anniversary Twitter
chat, the launch of Jim's column collection, _Catalyst-In-Chief_ (both
in print and digitally) and more! We'll have more details on ways you
can pitch in and participate as May gets underway.

Sam Knuth writes:

"I'm starting to work on a new series of posts [for Opensource.com] from
my daily work as a leader in an open organization."

                                -=-

Phil Foster writes:

"I am still in need of Distributed organizations to interview for my
upcoming book."

                                -=-

Laura Hilliger writes:

"I'm always thinking about the personal qualities leaders need to
develop to flourish inside an open organization. Traits like Creativity,
Independence, Imagination, Mindfulness or Resilience can be strengthened
and developed. These are the types of traits that make collaboration and
participation possible. My theory is that open organizations help people
develop these (and other) personal qualities, leading to a more humane
(and fun!) work environment with better projects, products, and
procedures. Currently I'm thinking specifically about the concept of
Courage and how it connects to open practices. Subscribe to my weekly
newsletters, which readers have called "informative, eclectic and
funny," to stay up-to-date with my work."
