Welcome to the January 2017 Open Organization Ambassadors Report!
Our community began the new year with a flourish. We published nine
total articles about open organizations, each one from a different
author. Ambassadors contributed nearly half of those articles.
Open Organization content at Opensource.com generated 16,430 page views
in January, and our downloadable companion volumes remained popular with
readers.
More importantly, however, we continued to gain momentum as a community,
building important and influential projects together. We've now begun
building on the Open Organization Definition in order to produce a
maturity model useful for other professionals and consultants attempting
to help organizations become more open. February promises to be another
stellar month.
We consider being part of this community an extraordinary privilege, and
we extend our sincere thanks for all that we learn as we watch the
ambassadors teach others about the power of openness.

We're on GitHub [1]! In January, the ambassadors launched a new GitHub
organization, where they could collaborate transparently and publicly.
The organization already contains several repositories for ongoing
projects and initiatives.

On January 5, the German _Linux Magazine_ contacted us seeking
permission to include _The Open Organization Leaders Manual_ on the CD
of materials it ships to subscribers with its print publication. It
should arrive on newsstands shortly.

In late January, ambassador Allison Matlack delivered an OpenOrg-themed
talk at the DevConf conference in Brno. As part of her talk, she
distributed complimentary printed copies of _The Open Organization
Leader's Manual_. (Ambassador Laura Hilliger met up with Allison for one
epic selfie [2].)

#### {5} Looking Ahead ####
###########################
On February 2, ambassador Chad Whitacre and Bryan Behrenshausen will
host a virtual GitHub workshop for ambassadors seeking to learn more
about using the community's newest collaboration tool [1]. It'll occur
at 10:00 /15:00 UTC on BlueJeans, and will be recorded for use by future
amabssadors.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Ambassadors will gather for their monthly live meeting on February 9 at
the usual time (10:00 / 15:00 UTC). The agenda is online [2] and ready
for modification.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Ambassadors have begun work on a maturity model [3] to accompany the
Open Organization Definition [4]. That work continues in February and
we're currently looking for more contributions! Please do chime in and
help shape this important project [5].
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
On February 4, Bryan Behrenshausen will offer a brief presentation at
the Open Source 101 conference in Raleigh, NC. Built on the Open
Organization Definition, "What is an Open Organization?" aims to
introduce open source neophytes to the ways open principles can help us
rethinking organizational design. We'll circulate the talk for comment
and critique if and when it's recorded and posted online.

Robin Muilwijk writes:
"In the upcoming month, I will focus on picking up one or two articles
again, contribute to current work happening on GitHub. But also
contribute/share my experience to the maturity model (to be released). I
am extending my hours at the open source company/project, I also work
for. There will be an interesting opportunity here, with regards to both
inner-sourcing, and also more ground to cover on the open org in general
and article ideas/opportunities."
