February was a busy month for our community! We've begun the 2017
publishing year on such strong footing, and we simply wouldn't be able
to say that had we not received the outstanding support, contributions,
and overall positive vibes our community channels so consistently.

We published nine total articles in February, each one from a different
author. Ambassadors once again contributed nearly half those stories.
Thank you!

Onward and upward!

Jason

Our communtiy welcomed two new open organization ambassadors in
February: Jen Kelchner of LDR21 [1], and Lauri Apple of Zalando [2],
both of whom have written previously for Opensource.com. They both
joined their first ambassador meeting on February 9.

The open organization ambassadors have begun their next collective
project: development of an "open organization competency model [3],"
which builds on the recently released Open Organization Definition to
specify various modalities of open practice. The ambassadoers hope to
produce a document that will help organizations interested in becoming
more open understand precisely what that "looks and feels like."

On February 4, Bryan Behrenshausen delivered a presentation entitled
"What is an Open Organization?" at the Open Source 101 conference in
Raleigh, North Carolina [4]. The half-hour presentation introduced the
"open organization" concept to a broad audience by way of the open
organization ambassadors' recently completed Open Organization
Definition. At the same event, Jason Hibbets presented a step-by-step
guide to conducting Twitter chats, along with lessons our community has
taught us about making them successful.

#### {5} Looking Ahead ####
###########################

We're gearing up for the first #OpenOrgChat of 2017! The March 30
Twitter event will tackle "Making Open Decisions," and will feature
several ambassadors who've already agreed to participate. We'd love for
you to join us! Official chat annoucements—as well as chat questions—are
coming very soon.

Ambassadors have made excellent progress on the open organization
"competency descriptions," whcih we set as a goal for ourselves in
February. Let's revisit the language at our March meeting (see below)
and decide how best to move forward. Feel free to add additional
contributions before then [1]!

Jen Kelchner writes:

"LDR21 has our 'grand opening' ribbon cutting ceremony with the Cobb
County Chamber on March 7th at 3PM EST. We will likely be showing it via
Facebook Live as well. It is a big step for us in formalizing as an
agency as well as become a more public figure locally in North Atlanta.
The Cobb Chamber is home to many many large organization HQ's and is
highly reputable for how they build relationships in community. We are
excited to partner with them to get the word about Open out.

My partners and I have begun development on an extensive people/org
assessment tool. Would welcome advice from anyone in the group with the
technology background who could advise us on our initial phase of
development. Especially providing more education on how to opensource
while retaining your intellectual property to generate revenue....I'm an
opensource newby what can I say :)"

{See you in March!—B)
