Welcome to the October 2017 Open Organization Ambassadors Report!

October really was a standout month for the open organization community
at Opensource.com. In all, we published nine articles about open
organizations this month, and each of those articles came from a
different writer in our community. Collectively, our material about open
organizations generated 16,217 page views in October—a great number.

On top of that, we also released a new book: an illustrated version of
the Open Organization Definition, which is available in paperback and
eBook formats. More on that in the report!

As 2017 winds down (seriously!), we're working to bring it to a
spectacular close. Read on for more about what everyone's been up to
this month. We couldn't be happier to be part of it all.

The Open Organization Definition is now a printed book. Illustrated in
full color and available from publishing partner Lulu, the book
introduces new audiences to the five key characteristics of open
organizations: transparency, inclusivity, adaptability, collaboration,
and community [1].

At the All Things Open conference in Raleigh this month, ambassadors
Chad Whitacre, Sam Knuth, and Jen Kelchner appeared on stage with DeLisa
Alexander of Red Hat as part of an interactive panel entitled "Create a
More Transparent, Collaborative & Inclusive World" [2]. The panel
explored ways that various organizations can create and promote open
cultures.

Ron McFarland's article entitled "3 lessons in effective open
partnership" [3] will be reprinted in The HR Agenda, Japan's leading
bi-lingual HR publication. Ron will share a copy when it's released.

#### {5} Looking Ahead ####
###########################

Our next meeting of the ambassadors will occur Thursday, November 9, at
10:00 Eastern / 14:00 UTC. An agenda is already taking shape [1]. As we
decided last month, we'll spend a bit more time at the next meeting
chatting about article ideas and writing plans for the coming month.
Bryan will include extra details about this in his meeting reminder.

The Open Organization Workbook is coming along splendidly. For a sneak
peak, check out the always-updated galley proofs [2]. Many ambassadors
are involved in the effort—and some of their writing has already
appeared online. Since we're aiming for an early-December launch, why
not download a set of proofs today and give your chapter another look-see?
