Hope you guys find the drive to continue. I wanted to mention that you have an open invitation from the Yate's null team - either to join or to seek common sub-projects. Note: I am not a member of Yate, but discussed this possibility with Diana earlier because you will need a SS7 stack, so will Yate etc, you need hardware drivers, so will Yate etc. You can afford to cooperate and still keep you own identity.
Yate's usage of C++ versus your C don't need to be a problem. As for myself I have joined a open hardware project, but I will keep my eyes on you guys and hopefully one day start the porting of OpenPBX to the embedded Blackfin platform we are working on.
