Ztdummy would only be needed if you are doing app-meetme or iax trunk though in Asterisk. I'm sure this is something that could be worked on be quite possible. I know a few people that are interested in doing the same concept. I'm running OpenPBX in a FreeVPS at present and timing isn't great but right now with the addition of app conference I'm not dependent on zaptel timing for anything I do on a regular basis.
