Can't repeat that, the installed file is correct.

$ rpm -q amd
amd-6.0.9-20030220
$ ls -l /cw/etc/amd/amd.conf
-rw-r--r--    1 cw       cw           1016 Feb 20 20:40 /cw/etc/amd/amd.conf
$ sum /cw/etc/amd/amd.conf
16319     1
$ grep pid /cw/etc/amd/amd.conf
pid_file               = /cw/var/amd/amd.pid
print_pid              = yes
$

Maybe you had an old amd.conf file lying around ?
