Hi. To the "platform" script and Solaris: Under Solaris, there are the commands "isainfo" and "isalist", that give informations about the installed kernel and processor (possible instruction set).
E.g. on my machine: $ isainfo -v 32-bit i386 applications $ isalist pentium_pro+mmx pentium_pro pentium+mmx pentium i486 i386 i86 On a SPARC with 64-bit kernel: $ isainfo -v 64-bit sparcv9 applications 32-bit sparc applications $ isalist sparcv9+vis sparcv9 sparcv8plus+vis sparcv8plus sparcv8 sparcv8-fsmuld sparcv7 sparc I think, "isainfo" exists since Solaris 7 and "isalist" since Solaris 2.6. At least this is where i found them first - don't know whether there are patches that introduce them for older releases.
