Hopes of threading? Forget it. Unless the application uses Pthreads you
usually gain nothing by adding -pthread.

Sorry, that's not true. The stuff in "pgp" is correct, it has a hack
only for FreeBSD where it does not hurt. But you did it here for Solaris
and there it hurts. So the "pgp" stuff was correct.
