No, from me only the getc()-part was contributed. The other changes
were done by David Price. And the changes are in their official CVS, so
will be released with the next version. But I do not want to wait until
another CVS version is released (can require many more months) because
we _NOW_ have to solve the server hanging/full-CPU-utilization problem.
Hence I include some of their patches into our package in the hope they
finally solve our problems. Yes, I do not know whether they solve them,
because I cannot deterministically reproduce the problem....
