Next week we'll start with the release engineering process for
OpenPKG 2.1. The project manager is (again) Thomas Lotterer
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>. According to our Engineering Phases (see
http://www.openpkg.org/doc/slideset/openpkg/slide-019-m.html), the
final release of OpenPKG 2.1 is planned for 30-Jun-2004.

The major goals for OpenPKG 2.1 are:

  - available contributor environment
  - further tool chain integration
  - additional RPM extensions (hooks, etc)
  - latest vendor versions
  - latest platform support
  - official slideset material

The release engineering timeline for OpenPKG 2.1 is:

As you can see, we'll again perform various tasks in parallel to
optimize the process. More details about the individual sub-tasks you
can find under http://cvs.openpkg.org/openpkg-re/todo.txt

All contributors are now encouraged to review their own problem and
patch queue and send us *NOW* the information about critial issues which
should be addressed in OpenPKG 2.1 -- or the resolving of the issues
have to wait until OpenPKG 2.2 ;-) Thanks.
