First, I'm glad you finally were able to install the OpenPKG PAM package. By
the way, X11 and Oracle (client) is similar in that it depends on the
underlying system X11 components and does not install them itself.

I'll just stick my neck out and say what I think. Neither pam-devel nor
x11-devel belong in a list of OpenPKG requirements. The bootstrap package
builds fine without them, and pam-devel and x11-devel (and maybe a few
others) are specific requirements to those two or three 'information
resource' OpenPKG packages.

I've modified their error output (which you saw) to be more helpful in
tracking such problems in the future. It should be clear to an admin now
that he must have working installations of the underlying PAM and/or X11
components before building the corresponding OpenPKG packages.
