I ran into an ``interesting'' problem today building perl-mail on a SuSE 9.0 Professional system where it started into the manual configuration for CPAN. This didn't work very well in an non-interactive mode.
I probably won't get a chance to look into this in detail until next week. My thought is that perhaps the base perl package should check for the appropriate CPAN Config.pm file, creating a reasonable default file if one isn't present. FWIW, After I ran the CPAN shell manually, and created the default configuration for the unpriviledged openpkg user, the build of perl-mail asked again for a couple of additional options which weren't covered in the basic setup.
