So, maybe I'm grossly mistaken about something, but isn't this just a matter of getting your '-R' and '-L' options right? Which I appreciate may not always be *easy* in the real world. (Also assuming people aren't using LD_* environment variables, which they shouldn't be, but people do dumb things.) Or am I just missing something?
