Well it should be easy enough tomorrow for me to hack shtool to use
bash as the shell and at least see if that allows the build to
complete.  I wonder why $prefix/lib/openpkg/bash is not used normally
by shtool? Perhaps ALL other /bin/sh implementations do not have
trouble with python and only AIX's (/usr/bin/ksh) does?

I would have thought that Ralf had come across similar issues before as
surely shtool is designed as a common interface to openpkg, avoiding
incompatibility issues.

It's a shame I no longer have access to our systems from home and have
little time to investigate when in the office.
