Sure, I'm actually the guy behind Apache's original DSO functionality
;-) But for OpenPKG we originally had to go the "build all modules
statically into Apache" for portability reasons (especially Solaris in
the past broke horrible with a mod_perl and mod_ssl DSO, etc). Under
run-time it results in the same. But you're right: one would get more
packaging flexibility, of course.

Not from my side or any other OpenPKG Foundation e.V. member I know of.
They all run Apache 1.3 which is just fine and sufficient. But I'm happy
to take over contributed patches which bring the "apache2" package to
the module list state from the "apache" package.
