I installed all *readline* packages I could find, to no avail.
By the way, most other stuff builds fine under Cygwin.
Which stuff? Which tool chain sources? This would be useful to
document on the wiki:

I wouldn't want to officially maintain the Cygwin port though. I can
post here every now and then any problems I encounter, provided that
someone shows any interest in fixing it.
