Hi everyone!

In mid October we had the OpenRISC meeting
(http://opencores.org/or1k/OpenRISC_Project_Meeting).

There were many good presentations and discussions. To make sure we follow
up and execute all the good ideas and proposals coming up during the
OpenRISC meeting, we have put together a brief slide
(https://www.dropbox.com/s/u8z5ei96ewyf8jp/OpenCores_and_OpenRISC_project_pr
oposal.pdf ) to explain what we think is necessary to do, based on the
discussions at the meeting.

This include an overview of how we can improve the structure of the OpenRISC
project, and hopefully makes it easier for booth experienced developers,
newbies and users of the projects.

This presentation (ppt) has been sheared among all people that were
attending the meeting. I try to summarize the feedback here:

Wiki structure:

All comments positive about rearrange the starting page/wiki. Have to decide
structure of the wiki and what info should be on the “beginners” wiki and
what should be on the “advanced” one.

Repositories:

Good to split the arch spec and the different project related to it i.e
ORPSoC, SW, etc.

Release program:

Good to shape this up. Different ideas:

1) release program with a set date for a release.

2) to few patches for releases by date, release might be identical from
release to release.

3) discussion on the mailing list/mail forum

Patches:

1) Good with a tracking system so the various maintainers can be aware of
what is outstanding.

2) apply patches as they are posted (after review or silence ack) in a
or1200-dev repo.

Project maintainers:

good to get various maintainers to be better organized. Highlight that it
will be hard to find good taskmasters, due to lack of time.

Centralised information:

good to have the project entry point on the project's OpenCores wiki page.
Good if as much info as possible is in one place. This can be done quite
easy and start right away.

Please respond with any comments and/or suggestions.

Hopefully we can start working with the changes within shortly.

Best regards,

/Johan
