HELP! - php.ini-dist

I'm having a hell of a time getting MySQL to work with OpenSA v0.20 via php,
does anyone have a fool-proof, simple script (like 'Hello World')  that I can
at least test connectivity to MySQL.

ANY help in this area is much appreciated.
