- **status**: unassigned --> invalid
- **Comment**:
Closed since the message will not show up frequently if message queues are
correctly configured or set to unlimited (default in OpenSAF). As a consequence
of an error fixed with [#841] this message was logged frequently.

** [tickets:#929] LOG: Too many 'discarded writes' messages in syslog**
**Status:** invalid
**Milestone:** 4.3.3
**Created:** Wed May 28, 2014 08:38 AM UTC by elunlen
**Last Updated:** Wed May 28, 2014 08:54 AM UTC

Too many of the following type of messages may be written to the syslog
"May 3 15:37:48 SC-1 osaflogd[7643]: NO discarded 1 writes, stream type: app"
This message is written when mailbox full state is leaved. The log server may
enter this state if mailbox queues are limited. If the log service is correctly
configured and used this should be a rare event. This means that if a lot of
these messages are written there is something that is wrong and this is good to
log. However if the problem occurs a lot of messages may be written.
A suggestion is to collect some statistics on how often the queue gets full and
if it happens a lot one log message about this can be written. A new message
can be logged if the problem is detected again after queue limits are changed
or the node is restarted.
