a big advantage of the openct native driver would be: available much faster. recompiling one package for a distribution or downloading one is quite easy. but most people use distributions kernels and don't want to replace them. so until you get the code submitted to linux kernel mainline, they accept it, release a new kernel and the distributions ship a new distribution with that kernel, the typical user can't use your driver, or at least not easily. with updated openct packages we usualy get a new ubuntu, opensuse and fedora and friends after 9 months. about 6 months faster if you keep at it and get it in the main kernel line. same for bug fixes, changes etc: going through kernel mailine is more overhead I guess. ( not sure how willing distributions are to add out-of-kernel drivers to their distribution kernel or patches not yet in kernel etc. ) Regards, Andreas _______________________________________________ opensc-devel mailing list [email protected] http://www.opensc-project.org/mailman/listinfo/opensc-devel
