Further to my previous post: mystery now solved! I now know what you 
meant by asking me to compare both pkcs11-tool and pkcs15-tool outputs 
(it goes to show what I know of OpenSC/OpenCT)!

I just registered a second pin and added another data object to my token 
with that (2nd) PIN. when I execute "pkcs11-tool -L" I now have 3 slots 
(I had just one previously): Slot 0, which was my previous slot with 
auth-id 01 PIN, Slot 1, which now contains my 2nd PIN and I also have a 
third slot which does not contain anything (at least the output of both 
-lO and -O is nothing).

I know now how this works and that I do not need to worry which auth-id 
to use (if at all).
