On the contrary, comparing the speed of two cars is *exactly* like comparing 
the speed of two smart cards.

Because a second and the tools to measure time (and distance) are universally 
agreed upon.

Comparing the speed of a solar powered electric car and a 6L V8 machine, does 
it make sense? Sure it does, because you get the difference of speed (the time 
it takes "to get from A to B").
You don't compare acceleration, safety, fuel efficiency, color, transmission 
type, interior materials or other factors that would otherwise affect your 
overall perception of the car.

Sure, for that specific purpose I could have used "<10s, 10..30s,  30..60s,  
60..120s, 120s+, 180s+"  for the average of 3 key generations.
