Agreed. IMHO the biggest problem is that there might be variations of
the same reader with and without this feature, depending on firmware
version or worse, without changes in firmware version number.
It is even worse if the reader enables this feature based on hardcoded
card information or something similar - this way the user has no way
of knowing if the feature applies to his usecase or not.

The third problem I've seen is the inability to unanimously detect
this feature by probing the card and getting a specific error code.
The ones I've seen ("INS not supported")  can be interpreted
differently.

I have seen readers with this feature (need to specify exact USB ID
and firmware version) that work with the CCID driver (more or less):
Gemalto PinPad v2
Gemalto Ezio Shield PinPad
ACS APG8201

I don't know yet any online shops or retail places selling those.

Does this mean that they are not CCID compatible?
