Is the workstation joined to an AD domain? Or are you trying to logon as a 
local user?
Is the reason you can not do the logon using the certificates in the first 
application?
Is it the missing extensions for "smartcard logon" and the 
subjectAltName:otherName:msUPN?
Would W7 work better, or is XP required?

(I believe W7 logon can get around the missing extensions.)
