Allen,

When I was working with some of the major City Planners and Urban
Visualization folks in Phoenix, I came to know that SketchUp was their
preferred modeling tool ( to my surprise ). We struggled to convert
SketchUp files to something we could render without artifacts. The
process was cumbersome and error prone ( triangulation issues, missing
polygons, etc ).
