AFAIR there were some issues with objects that are referenced and destroyed 
within the same sync cycle, but I can't reproduce the details right now.

That would have helped for this case, but we fixed it by replacing the RefPtr 
with * anyway. The comment was more a generic one, as I can see that happening 
fairly easily for other apps.
