The method for setting the ZNeg face is called just 'setImage'. I admit
it's not very intuitive, but hopefully will be documented better some day.

No idea about the hangs here, sorry. However, I think you should be using
beginEditCP()/endEditCP() calls all around your code, although if you
don't do multi-threaded stuff you may get away without using them.
