the visibility defines which fields are written to files (.osg and .osb)
or transfered across a cluster.
My rule of thumb is that anything that is derived from other data or
that's specific to a certain instance of the program (like pointers or
OpenGL indices) should not be external, as it could confuse the cluster
or the reader of the file, and is not necessary anyway.
