I just realized that I had already checked in your changes into 1.4, so
I just checked using your code, and it works fine with the normal
SkyBackground from the 1.4 release, including texture coordinate
changes.

Which version are you using right now? I could imagine there being some
name collisions between your derived background and the current regular
one. If you're running 1.4, can you just try using the regular
SkyBackground, not your derived one?
