Could it just be because of the aspect ratio? More correctly the
camera's field  of view should be called fovy, because it is the
vertical view angle. Vertical is defined in terms of the camera's
up vector, usually the y-axis. But in your case this is definitely
different. In order to get the horizontal camera range you have to
multiply by the aspect ratio which is given by the ratio
of the x- and y- resolution of your graphics window.
