I can load it using the built-in PLY loader and get ~3 on my QuadroFX
1000. What's your card? How does your plain OpenGL program render it,
i.e. how do you get your normals, what kinds of and number of lights,
what do you use for rendering (Display Lists, VBO, VertexArrays,
Immediate Mode (*cough* ;))?

It works just fine for me. It does eat up about 900M when the striper is
running, during rendering I have about 500M (that is with display
lists).

The PLY loader is currently in CVS, but will probably move out into the
ContribLib shortly. Get it while it's hot. ;)
