Yes that's a known bug. A quite simple solution would be to replace the
core of the root node with a MaterialGroup (this will overwrite all
other materials) while rendering the depth map.


Actually you could just use the mechanism that the MaterialGroup uses
(DrawAction::setMaterial()) instead of fudging with the node. Should be
a very simple fix.

Yes good idea that's much nicer. I added the code and a new shadowMapTextureIndex field for selecting the texture unit for the shadow map.
