We use NVIDIA. I can only comment that ATI & NVIDIA have quite different 
GLSL-compilers and it can be a PITA to make things cross-compatible. 
There is a verifyer available (that checks shader source with the 
standard) that would help quite a bit with that.

However, our app has been known to run on an ATI-laptop, after a heap of 
tweaks and fixes. :)
