We discussed FileIO and progress a bit previously, summarized here

Getting the name of the loaded file, or mime-type, in the callback would 
be a good start, I think. Perhaps your suggestion can be applied rather 
quickly, or merged into the wiki proposal for the next-gen IO?

Btw, how far has Christoph progressed with the work?
