hm, what actions are used to render these images, the RenderAction or 
the RenderTraversalAction (a filed a bug about another model being 
rendered differently with these two actions some time ago, ticket #117)?

maybe I could persuade you to give the new OSB loader a try ? It can be 
enabled by compiling with: scons enable_new_osb_io=yes
