hmm, I don't like that at all, as it will introduce code that only works on
certain platforms. It's borderline acceptable as a stop-gap measure, but I
would
really, really like to avoid introducing this even temporarily, as if it's not
removed quickly it might stay, which would be a very bad precedence.
