Dirk: Would it be helpful to get some feedback on the ideas you are trying out? For example would it be helpful to put up a wiki page with the proposed interfaces and ask people to comment?
One area I am very interested in is the overlap between OpenSG smart pointers (FCPtrs) and memory management pointers (RefPtrs).
