it seems possible, there are a couple of commits that deal with fixes to
the texture coordinates, but there might have been changes to the
vertices as well. The texture coordinate fixes mention compatibility
with the VRML standard, so my guess would be that a pretty strong
argument would be required to do things differently.

Hm, I don't know what exactly your lib computes, but why does it depend
on the "parameterization" of the sphere? Or maybe I'm misunderstanding
the problem you observe; can you give an example of what you mean be
"coordinates of all vertices are swapped" ?
