are your FBOViewports added to the MultiDisplayWindow? The MDW has code 
to handle these and duplicate them on the server side where they are 
then rendered together with the real viewport.
The other thing you could do is have a specialised render server that 
attempts to find the FBOViewports (perhaps by adding a NameAttachment to 
them on the client and having the server search for that) and render 
them before the main scene.
