First, it is a weak dependency not necessarily required to run OpenSG. The integration is provided by means of a Contrib package. It consists 'simply' of a VTK poly data mapper class which provides the handshake between the VTK graphic pipline and the OpenSG render backend. On the VTK side you can think of it as the terminal point of the pipline and on the OpenSG side it provides a group core which can be used in the scene graph. That is the amount of information I can give you. I have planned to look more into this field in the near future.
