we also transfer models from a modeler (or Google SketchUp) to an OpenSG-based

We use Collada for assembling static geometry (coming from Google Warehouse for 
example)
but not via the OpenCollada plugins. They are not yet close to the standard it 
seems:

We had especially problems with geometry having several materials assigned. 
They came out with only
one of the materials remaining.

We did not try Blender. For Maya and 3ds Max, there is the file format FBX and 
via it Collada.
You can find a plugin for Maya and 3ds Max below (older plugin versions at the 
bottom)
