I tried exporting an old project I had and that was successful. I am attaching the troublesome project since it seems to be specific to something in there. In terms of major differences between the two, this one is longer, makes use of transitions, makes use of 6 tracks vs 2.

When I attempt to export the project as a video file (MP4 with h.264 (I always forget the proper number)) OpenShot works for a while, seems to get about 20% through and then hangs. When I examine the process in the System Monitor, the Status is 'Sleeping' and the Waiting Channel is 'futex_wait_queue_me'.
