You should see libmlt++2 installed, in /usr/lib. Did you remove the Karmic PPA (and removed it from your software sources), or just MLT?

If I preview or play, the playback starts with a normal speed playback for about a second and then it starts to creep extremely slowly from then on. The audio also starts to get glitchy. This happens when previewing and playback for any video or audio, I tried different formats, and they all seem to have the exact same behavior.
