I'm having a similar problem. It extends to Openshot playing the audio track
past the end as displayed on the timeline. Usually only a few seconds extra.
I believe it may be related to the mp3 file being in the VBR (Variable Bit
Rate) format.
If you are having this problem, please check the details of the mp3 file. You
may need to find a tool that can dig deeper, as lots of tools report VBR files
as the average bit rate and don't inform you it's a VBR.

Under linux, the mp3info tool will give you more details

mp3info -x file.mp3
....
Audio: Variable kbps, 44 kHz (joint stereo)
....

If we can confirm this is a VBR problem, we can look at fixes. (or
reencode the problem files to CBR)

Bug description:
When I import an audio file and add it to time line the end of the sound is cut
off. The same also happens when i preview the recording. This happened with
both the M4A and MP3 formats.
