Found this page, called 'Ubuntu Popularity contest' that tries to measure the usage of Ubuntu packages (it's dependent on installing a specific package to submit the stats).
http://popcon.ubuntu.com/ According to that, OpenShot has been installed 53201 times, out of a total of about 2,200,352 submissions. i.e. about 2.4% of machines. That could mean anything up to 480,000 installs if the 20 million Ubuntu users number is accurate...either way there are a large number of installs out there...
