I have seen this same bug reported on Debian also, and I think it's related to a bug in MLT and how MLT integrates with the newest version of FFmpeg. If you look at the MLT archives (scroll to the bottom), you will see they are aware of some FFmpeg compilation problems: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_name=mlt- devel&max_rows=25&style=ultimate&viewmonth=201201.
I'm going to try and reproduce this error on the daily build of Ubuntu 12.04, and I'll post what I find.
